Advocating for Australians Wrongfully Detained Abroad

When a loved one is wrongfully or arbitrarily detained abroad, their families and friends are often thrust into a new and confusing world. They must swiftly learn to navigate a foreign country’s law enforcement and judicial systems, as well as our own government’s consular bureaucracy. They might also need to quickly develop skills in public campaigning and media engagement. This daunting task is compounded by fears for the welfare and safety of their loved one, who might be facing the prospect of doing time as an innocent person in a foreign prison due to a misunderstanding, unsubstantiated allegations or even as a diplomatic hostage.

AWADA was founded by Australians with first-hand experience of wrongful and arbitrary detention. We’re here to help.
